Torke – Colour Music

I don’t recall where I stumbled upon a review of this music, but I did read a commentary during the last week that intrigued me enough to sample Colour Music by Torke.

Colour Music is exciting modern orchestral music awash in energy, rhythm and dynamics.   There are five titles on this CD, that propelled me on a fascinating journey in sound.

In Green Music, there are hints of Latin American sounds merged with European symphonic traditional elements.  Purple evokes the soundtrack to a crime drama or mystery film.   Ecstatic Orange brings nervous energy, frantic sounds, soaring, searching, reaching out.  Ash is bold and confident, heroic and joyful.  The last composition, Bright Blue Music, conveys youthful innocence through dancing lines.

My first chance to listen to this music was via earbuds on a Napster download whilst traveling on a plane. I can’t wait to get a CD (or better resolution if available) and play through the home stereo. And that encounter will be played loud.

Wonderful performance by David Zinman and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.  more music that belongs in the modern concert hall along with the likes of Jack Gallagher
