We continue into the Advent season with week 2 of music at St. Mary Magdalen Church in Camarillo. For the Traditional Latin Mass service, our mass ordinary setting is the traditional Missa XVII supplemented with Credo V.

As is the common practice during Advent, no organ preludes or postludes with the exception of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and the 3rd Sunday of Advent (Gaudete Sunday).

Before mass begins, in place of the organ prelude, our choir will sing the O Antiphons, adding antiphon selections weekly through the Advent season.  We’ll end with Benediction as we do at the end of Mass every first Sunday of the month.

Listed today are the choral selections that our choir will sing for this Sunday’s liturgy – Second Sunday of Advent.

Useful commentary on the 2nd Sunday of Advent via Father Z.  “During Advent, as the Baptist warns us, we are to make ready the path for the coming of the Lord.  This week we are still rushing but perhaps we are wiser after the first rush of excitement.  This week we are wary of obstacles which could impede us, snare our feet.  These impediments are merely worldly ways and works, not meritorious for salvation since they are not performed in Christ.”  Read the whole commentary here

To get into the Advent spirit further, some wonderful music from the Benedictines of Mary offers a fantastic accompaniment.  I highly recommend their recording Advent at Ephesus, which you can purchase via this link to support both the Benedictines of Mary.
