Sheet Music Wednesday
This week on Sheet Music Wednesday, a collection of organ suites by Jean-François Dandrieu. The landing page at IMSLP will navigate you to various uploads of collections that contain 63 Pieces divided into 6 Suites, each containing an Offertoire, various pieces and a complete Magnificat. The most recently added copies are those originally published by Montréal: Les Éditions Outremontaises.
I like these types of works as they are fairly accessible, and can form a useful collection for prelude music. I’ll usually prepare an entire suite and start playing approximately 10 minutes before Mass. Sometimes I can get through the entire suite, otherwise, I’ll stop the suite if the service is ready to begin before the end – which leaves a few selections available for music during offertory or communion if necessary.
