First Sunday of Advent 2017
Today is the First Sunday of Advent 2017. Happy liturgical New Year!
Today’s Introit is Ad Te, Domine Levavi
The text comes from verses 1-4 of Psalm 25,
1 To You, O LORD, I lift up my soul.
2 O my God, I trust in You;
Let me not be ashamed;
Let not my enemies triumph over me.
3 Indeed, let no one who waits on You be ashamed;
Let those be ashamed who deal treacherously without cause.
4 Show me Your ways, O LORD;
Teach me Your paths.
Today, the liturgical year starts anew. Last night in the local area, some friends gathered to celebrate New Year’s in Catholic style. This morning at church following the early New Year celebrations, the liturgy will take on a different dimension, as our mass settings exclude the Gloria during this season. At many parishes, mass ordinary settings will change – ours changing to the traditional Missa XVII. We’ll also be adding Credo V during the season. No organ preludes or postludes over the next few weeks with the exception of the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and the 3rd Sunday of Advent (Gaudete Sunday). In the interim, that provides practice time for the organist to prepare for the Christmas season.
Listed today are the choral selections which our choir will sing for this Sunday’s liturgy – The First Sunday of Advent 2017:
- O Come O Come Emmanuel
- Veni Redemptor Gentium
- Panis Angelicus (Casciolini)
- Bone Pastor
- Alma Redemptoris Mater
- Come Thou Long Expected Jesus
